How to Reset the Alarm on a 2002 Jeep

Jeep makes a number of rugged vehicles, such as the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and TJ. In 2002, some Jeep models used a security alarm system for extra safety. The alarm system is activated when someone tries to enter the Jeep or open the hood without first unlocking the vehicle using a valid remote fob or car key. You can reset the alarm by deactivating it once armed, and then re-arming the system.

Things You'll Need

  • Jeep key
  • Jeep remote
  • Press the Jeep fob "Panic" button to stop the alarm. Alternatively, you can wait 3 minutes for the alarm to stop automatically. If you do not have the key fob, start the Jeep and drive it over 15 mph to stop the alarm.

  • Use the key fob or Jeep key to unlock the doors. This will fully disarm the security system.

  • Press the power lock button inside the car on the driver side panel, then close all the doors including the back and hood. Alternatively, close the doors first then press the "lock" button on the Jeep key fob.

  • Wait 16 seconds for the red light on the control panel to flash and do not open any doors or press any button on the key fob during this time. After the time has passed, the alarm will be reset again.
