How to Replace F250 Tow Mirrors

Ford F250 tow mirrors are larger, side-view mirrors mounted on the doors to provide the driver with better visibility behind the truck. When towing a trailer with the F250, the more a driver can see, the easier and safer they can operate the F250. An unfortunate side-effect of larger mirrors is that they're more prone to damage from road side obstacles than smaller mirrors. If your F250 suffers a damaged mirror and you have a solid grip on automotive repair, you can replace the tow mirrors in about two hours or less.

Things You'll Need

  • Trim tool
  • Socket set
  • Remove the F250's power window, power lock and power mirror (if applicable) switches by prying them from the door panel with the trim tool. Disconnect each switch from the door harness by hand and set them aside.

  • Remove the F250's door panel retaining hex-head screws using a socket set. Lift the door panel up 1-inch and then pull it off the door by hand. Set the panel aside.

  • Unplug the mirror's manual remote cable or power mirror wiring harness from the mirror by hand. Remove the three mirror retaining nuts with the socket set.

  • Move to the outside of the F250's door. Grab the body of the mirror and pull it straight outward, off the door by hand. Make sure to guide the wiring connector through the door carefully, if you're working with power mirrors.

  • Slide the new mirror onto the door by hand, making sure to guide the wiring harness through the door if so equipped. Move to the inside of the door and tighten the three retaining nuts onto the new mirror using your socket set.

  • Connect the manual mirror remote cable or power mirror wiring harness to the new mirror by hand. Reinstall F250's door panel in reverse of how you removed it.

  • Repeat steps one through six on the other door, if necessary, to replace the other mirror.
