How to Replace the Dashboard Lights on a Chevrolet Prizm

The Geo Prizm is a compact car produced by Chevrolet from 1989 to 2002. The Prizm has eight lights located on its instrument panel. These lights are referred to as dashboard lights. When one of these dashboard lights burns out, the rest are sure to follow. Replace all of the bulbs at once so as to not have to repeat the dash light replacement procedure anytime soon.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean gloves
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 194-type bulbs
  • Turn off the engine of the Prizm and put on the clean gloves. Lower the steering wheel to its lowest position.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to uninstall the two screws above the instrument panel, underneath the upper dash panel. Remove the three screws securing the instrument panel itself. Pull the instrument panel out to disengage the two clips in each bottom corner.

  • Reach behind the instrument panel and disconnect the four electrical wires by pulling them off the panel. At this point you can now pull the panel out of the vehicle.

  • Remove the instrument panel from the Prizm and place it on a clean working surface. Release the eight securing tabs and pull the top cover off the panel. The bulbs are located on the underside of the top cover of the instrument panel.

  • Pull all of the old bulbs out by rotating them to the left and pulling them out of their sockets. Install replacement bulbs by pushing them into the sockets and turning them to the right.

  • Reassemble the instrument panel and place it back into the vehicle. Reinstall the four electrical wires to the rear of the panel and reinstall all of the screws and clips.
