How to Replace the Blower Resistor on a 2000 Chrysler Sebring

On the 2000 Chrysler Sebring coupe and convertible, the blower motor resistor controls the amount of current that passes to the blower motor to regulate the flow of air from the heater and air conditioning. A common sign that a resistor has failed is irregular air circulation, especially if the blower will only operate on the high setting. While the blower resistor can be replaced alone, you should inspect the blower itself to prevent further resistor failure.

Things You'll Need

  • New blower resistor
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Metric socket set
  • Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove the panel underneath the passenger-side dash by taking out the plastic retainers.

  • Locate the blower motor, which has a smooth, cylindrical housing. On the underside of the blower motor are wires that lead to the blower resistor. Disconnect these wires and unscrew the fasteners holding the resistor in place. Pull the resistor downward and remove it from the vehicle.

  • Insert the new blower resistor and screw in its retainers. Connect the wires from the blower motor to the resistor. Re-install the underdash panel and reconnect the negative battery terminal.

  • Start the ignition and test the climate control fan for proper functionality.
