Multi-Function Switch Installation in the 2003 Ford F250

The 2003 Ford F-250 3/4-ton pickup is available in three body styles, a two-door standard cab, a super cab with two additional rear opening doors and an extra seat, and a four-door crew cab. Engine options include a gasoline powered V-8, V-10, or V-8 turbo-diesel. The F-250 is also available in two- or four-wheel-drive, with automatic or standard transmission. the F-250 has a steering column multi-function switch that controls turn signals, headlight dimmer, and windshield wiper and washer.

  • Torx driver set
  • Park the F-250 on a firm, level surface, and set the parking brake. Use a wrench to disconnect the negative battery cable, then disconnect the positive battery cable. Wait for at lease two minutes before working on the F-250.

  • Remove the center trim panel under the steering column by using a slotted screwdriver to carefully pry the panel away from the clips that hold it to the dash. Set the panel aside.

  • Insert the key into the ignition, and turn the key to the "Run" position. Insert a small pocket-size screwdriver into the hole in the bottom of the steering column cover directly beneath the ignition switch. Push up on the screwdriver to push in the pin that holds it in the ignition lock, and pull out the lock cylinder.

  • Use a wrench to remove the tilt wheel lever. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws from the bottom half of the steering column cover, then separate and remove the upper and lower covers.

  • Use a Torx driver to remove the two screws that hold the multi-function switch onto the steering column. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the multi-function switch, and remove the switch from the steering column.

  • Plug the electrical connectors into the multi-functions switch. mount the switch onto the steering column, and install the two retaining screws. Replace the upper and lower steering column covers and install the screws. Use a small pocket screwdriver to push in the pan on the steering column lock. Insert the lock cylinder, and turn it to the "Run" position. Remove the screwdriver. Turn the key back to the "Off" position to allow the pin to snap back into place. Rotate the key through all positions to ensure proper placement. Screw in the steering wheel tilt lever. Replace the center trim panel.
