The power window regulator holds the 2001 Ford Expedition window in position. The regulator is the mechanical device acted on by the window motor in order to move the window up or down. If the regulator should break, the window will either fall down into the door, or seemingly come off track and tilt off its axis. If this happens, the only way to remedy the situation is to replace the window regulator. If you have basic auto-repair skill and a 2001 Ford Expedition with an off-track window, you can tackle this job in about an hour.
Pull the 2001 Ford Expedition's window switch bezel out of the door panel with your trim tool. Unplug the wiring harness connector from the switch by hand. Set the switch and bezel assembly aside.
Remove the hex head screws from the door panel with your socket set. Place all the screws in one area within easy reach for ease of reinstallment.
Lift the door panel up and off the Expedition's door by hand. Set it aside.
Lift the Expedition's window back to the top of the window frame by hand. Tape the window to the top of the Expedition's door using packing tape; this will prevent the glass from falling back into the door.
Unbolt the Expedition's window regulator from the window, the door and the window motor with the socket set. Pull the regulator out of the door by hand.
Insert the Expedition's new window regulator into the door by hand. Bolt it to the window glass, the door and the window motor with the socket set.
Reinstall the 2001 Expedition's door panel in reverse of how you removed it. Remove the packing tape from the Expedition's window and door before operating the power windows.
