How to Do a Radiator Flush on a Cadillac CTS

If your engine begins to run hot or even if it just begins to smell like coolant, it may be time to flush the coolant in your Cadillac CTS. Unlike many of Cadillac's luxury sedans, the CTS added a sports car element and high-performance engine to the mix. You flush the coolant system on the Cadillac CTS in basically the same way you would any model. However, unlike other Cadillac models, the CTS coolant reservoir tank is located on the driver's side instead of on the passenger side.

Things You'll Need

  • Small piece of rubber tubing
  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Drain pan
  • Socket set
  • Hose with running water
  • Replacement coolant
  • Engage the emergency parking brake.

  • Open the radiator cap in the top middle of the radiator and the overflow coolant tank located on the drivers side, near the wheel well. Make sure the car is completely cold before opening either lid.

  • Slip the tube into the coolant reservoir tank and siphon out the fluid. Allow the fluid to drain into the pan.

  • Jack up the front end of the vehicle slightly and put jack stands in place.

  • Crawl underneath the front end and locate the radiator drain plug. It will be located on the bottom left side of the radiator. Use the socket set to remove it. Allow all the fluid to drain into the pan.

  • Place hose into the radiator and turn it on allowing it to flush through the radiator. Place the radiator drain plug back on at some point while doing this. When radiator is full again, remove the drain plug and allow all the water to drain out. Replace the drain plug.

  • Add five quarts of coolant and water to radiator. Add about half of one of those quarts to the coolant reservoir tank.
