The Chrysler Sebring drive belt is responsible for operating the air conditioner, alternator, water pump and power steering pump by taking power from the crankshaft pulley and transferring it to the pulleys on the engine accessories. Over time, the drive belt stretches out and the tensioner pulley no longer has the capability of providing enough tension on the belt to keep it from slipping. When this happens, you must replace the drive belt on your Chrysler Sebring.
Look for the drive belt diagram printed on the underside of the engine hood. The pulley diagram shows you how to route the drive belt when you install it. If you cannot locate the diagram or it is missing, draw your own diagram.
Locate the tensioner pulley low on the engine, across from the crankshaft pulley. The tensioner pulley does not connect to any other accessories and bolts directly to the engine block.
Place the ratchet driver into the square hole on the face of the tensioner pulley, and pull up on the handle to release tension on the Sebring's drive belt.
Pull the drive belt off the tensioner pulley, and then remove the belt from the rest of the pulleys
Place the new drive belt onto all of the pulleys except the tensioner pulley. Use the diagram as a visual aid.
Pull up on the ratchet handle, and slide the drive belt over the tensioner pulley.
Lower the pulley into place, and remove the ratchet driver from the tensioner pulley.
