How to Change Tundra Side Mirrors

The mirrors on the Toyota Tundra are large ABS-plastic enclosures that bolt to the side of each door with three studs attached to the mating surface of the mirror. The bolts extend completely through the door and three nuts hold the mirror on, accessible through the small plastic cover on the inside of the door. This makes the job of changing the Tundra side mirrors simple and straightforward.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • Open the door on the Tundra and roll down the window. This allows you to remove the nuts that secure the mirror while you hold the mirror in place.

  • Pull the triangular cover off the inner door panel on the opposite side of the mirror. No tools are required to remove the cover.

  • Pull the wiring harness out of the door's sub frame. Disconnect the harness by pulling the center tab up and pulling the two ends of the connector apart.

  • Remove the three mounting nuts from the studs using a socket and ratchet. Hold the mirror in place as you remove the final nut to prevent the mirror from falling out of the door.

  • Pull the mirror out of the door. Slide the studs of the new mirror through the door.

  • Thread the nuts onto the studs using your fingers. Tighten them with the socket and ratchet.

  • Push the two connectors of the wiring harness together and push down on the center tab. Stuff the harness into the door's sub frame.

  • Place the triangular cover onto the inner door panel and push it into place. The cover has tabs on the back that push into holes in the inner door panel.
