The method for removing the transmission shift knob on your 2014 Wrangler depends on whether or not it is equipped with an automatic or manual transmission. If you're trying to remove the knob for the manual transmission or four-wheel-drive lever, you'll need two special tools.
The knob for the automatic transmission is secured to the shift lever by a ring at the bottom of the knob. To remove the knob, use a plastic trim removal tool -- or a flat-head screwdriver with tape wrapped around the tip -- to pry the ring from the bottom of the knob. Once you've separated the ring, slide the knob off the shift lever.
To remove the knob for the manual transmission or the four-wheel-drive knob, you'll need a small slide hammer and a small pulley puller. Remove the bolt from the pulley puller. Slide the pulley puller over either shift knob so that the arms wrap around the bottom of the knob. Thread the slide hammer into the pulley puller until it touches the top of the shift knob. Slide the weight on the slide hammer to the opposite end as hard as you can, to pull the knob from the shift lever. Lean away from the knob when using the slide hammer -- the knob and puller may fly off the lever when the knob breaks free. To install the knob, slide the knob onto the shift lever and tap the top of the knob with a rubber mallet to seat it.
