The key battery in a 2006 Saab powers the remote keyless entry, making it easier to get in and out of your car. When the battery's charge begins to get low, you will get a low battery message on the Saab Information Display located on your dashboard. You can find a replacement battery for your 2006 Saab at the dealership, or at most electronics retailers. Whether you drive a 9-3, 9-5, or 9-7x, the procedure to change a 2006 Saab battery key is very straightforward.
Press the griffin Saab logo on the back of the key. While pressing, pull on the key chain rung. This removes the valet key from the key fob assembly.
Pry open the key with a small flat tip screwdriver. There is a rectangular opening at the seam of the key, and this is where you must apply pressure. The key will split into two halves.
Remove the battery. You should be able to remove the battery by hand, but you may also use a small screwdriver to pry the battery free.
Insert the new battery. Be sure that the battery is aligned in the same manner as the one that was removed.
Close the key. Snap the key back together and insert the valet key in its opening. Make sure it snaps in all the way.
Check functionality. Press the "lock" or "unlock" buttons to verify that the key has power. The next time you start the car, the low battery message on the Saab Information Display should be off.
Open the key. The 9-5 and 9-7x use a remote keyless entry setup that is integrated into the ignition key. Use a small flat tip screwdriver to pry the key open; there is a rectangular slot on the edge of the key that should be used to get leverage.
Remove the old battery. This can be done with your fingers or by using a small screwdriver.
Insert the new battery. Be sure the battery alignment and polarities match the battery that was removed in Step 2.
Close the key. The key snaps back together. Make sure you hear a "click" when you snap the key back together as this verifies the key is properly sealed.
Check functionality. Try to open or lock the doors using the remote. If these functions work, the battery is properly installed.
