The 1967 Ford Mustang was equipped with either two front bucket seats or with a single front bench seat as optional equipment. The seat assembly may be moved to adjust the position of the seat in relation to the dashboard. However, the back of the seat may not be adjusted. To move the seat, a lever underneath the front of the seat is pulled and the seat slides through two metal tracks. Over time, these tracks tend to corrode and the lever's spring can break. The tracks and the spring cannot be repaired unless the seat is removed.
Raise the side of the Mustang from which the seat will be removed from with a jack. Position the jack's lift point underneath the frame rail rather than underneath the floor pan to prevent damaging the pan.
Lower the Mustang onto safety stands.
Locate and remove the four rubber grommets underneath the Mustang to access the seat's mounting nuts. A single grommet is located against the bottom of the floor pan at each corner of the seat. Pry the grommets off the floor pan with a flathead screwdriver. Remove the four grommets on the opposite side of the car if the Mustang is equipped with a bench seat.
Remove each of the seat's four mounting nuts with a deep-set socket wrench. If the Mustang is equipped with the bench seat, remove the four mounting nuts on the opposite side of the car as well.
Lift the seat straight up to remove it.
