If the headlights have stopped working your Chevrolet truck, you may have a faulty headlight switch. The headlight switch allows you to turn the low and high beams on and off, as well as change their brightness. Although Chevrolet has produced a great variety of trucks, including the S-10 and the Silverado, the process for installing a new headlight switch remains relatively similar for each model. Expect the whole job to take about 30 minutes from start to finish.
Turn off your Chevrolet truck, and prop open the hood.
Disconnect the negative battery cable in the engine compartment.
Sit in the driver's side seat and remove the screws mounting the lower dashboard trim using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull off the lower dashboard trim.
Remove the screw mounting the headlight switch to the headlight switch bracket with a Phillips screwdriver.
Turn the headlight switch knob to the "Off" position. Push it in, then pull it and the attached shaft out of the headlight switch housing.
Pull the headlight switch housing out of the upper dashboard trim. Pry it carefully out with your flat-blade screwdriver if it won't come out with your fingers. Do not jerk it all the way out of the trim if it is still plugged in.
Disconnect the two wiring harnesses from the rear of the headlight switch.
Connect the two wiring harnesses to the rear of the replacement headlight switch, secure the switch on the headlight switch bracket with the mounting screw and replace the lower dashboard trim.
