How to Change the Radio Fuse on a 1999 Lexus ES300

The radio fuse in a 1999 Lexus ES300 is designed to prevent the vehicle's wiring from overheating if the radio draws too much current. This fuse is rated at 15 amperes and contains a small filament inside it. When more than 15 amps of current passes through the fuse, its internal filament bursts, stopping the flow of electricity. The radio will not operate until the blown fuse is replaced. Replacement fuses are available from auto parts and hardware stores.

Things You'll Need

  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Replacement radio fuse
  • Place the ES300's transmission in park and turn off the engine. Apply the parking brake and open the driver's side door.

  • Locate the fuse panel on the side of the dashboard between the driver's door and the dashboard. Remove the fuse panel cover and read the diagram on the underside of the cover. This diagram shows the location of the radio fuse within the fuse block.

  • Grip the fuse with a needle-nose pliers and pull it out. Install a new fuse and replace the fuse panel cover.

  • Turn on the ignition and test the radio to ensure that it operates properly.
