How to Jack Lift a 300ZX

The Nissan 300ZX was made from 1983 through the 2000 model year. The 300ZX Twin Turbo model was the fastest model to date, and was capable of producing up to 300-horsepower. The 300ZX was a victim of the fall of the American dollar to the Japanese yen in the 90's. This drove the prices up sky high, and drastically reduced the sales of this race ready factory vehicle. The lift points on both the Z31 and Z32 chassis are in the same place, so lifting all of the 300ZX cars is an identical process.

Things You'll Need

  • 2-ton Jack (or greater capacity)
  • Assistant

Lifting the Front Driver or Passenger Side of the 300ZX with a Jack

  • Place the jack perpendicular to the side of the 300ZX, approximately six inches behind the front wheel well.

  • Kneel next to the vehicle and physically inspect the location of the lift point. The lift point should be six inches behind the front wheel and about three inches towards the center for the 300ZX. The lift point is a downward bulge in the car's underbody with a rubber grommet in the center for impact absorption.

  • Push the jack beneath the car with one hand, while feeling that the jack is beneath the lift point with your other hand. If the car has been lowered at all, the jack may not slide under the car easily. Use an assistant to squat and tilt the body by lifting on the fender, at the wheel well. This will raise the car up enough that you can insert the jack. Lift the vehicle only when you have physically verified that you are aligned with the lift point.

Lifting the Rear Driver or Passenger Side of a 300ZX with a Jack

  • Place the jack perpendicular to the car, about ten inches in front of the rear wheel well. Kneel next to the car and physically locate the lift point with your hand.

  • Slide the jack underneath the car with one hand, while making sure it goes beneath the lift point with your other hand. The lift point is a downward bulge in the car's underbody with a rubber grommet in the center for impact absorption. If the car has been lowered, you may need to have an assistant lift up on the rear quarter panel, at the wheel well. This will tilt the car so that you can insert the jack.

  • Lift the vehicle only when you have verified the jack is resting under the lift point.
