The Location of the Coolant Fan Relay on a 1991 Camaro

The cooling fan relay on a 1991 Camaro is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM). When the PCM determines that the cooling fan is needed, it energizes the cooling fan relay, which then supplies the cooling fan with 12 volts of DC power. The relay is located inside the Camaro's under-hood relay center. This is a black, plastic box, positioned behind the windshield washer fluid reservoir on the right side of the engine compartment.

  • Place the Camaro's transmission in park or first gear (manual). Shut off the engine, apply the parking brake and open the hood.

  • Locate the under-hood relay center. It is a small, black box situated between the driver's-side strut tower and the windshield washer reservoir.

  • Remove the cover from the relay center and note the diagram on the underside of the cover. This diagram shows the exact location of the cooling fan relay inside the relay control center.

  • Determine the location of the cooling fan relay within the relay center according to the diagram.
