How to Adjust the Headlamps on a 2002 Impala

There are many situations in which the headlights on a 2002 Chevy Impala may need to be adjusted. If the vehicle is damaged in an accident, the headlights may have become maladjusted. Although it is recommended for the Chevy Impala to be taken to the dealer for headlight adjustment, it is possible to do it yourself thanks to the inclusion of the two adjustment screws located above the headlamp. The entire process only takes a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measurer
  • Blank wall
  • Tape
  • E8 Torx socket
  • Park the Impala 25 feet away from a wall and open the hood. Locate the aim dot on the lens of the headlight. It is located in the center of the headlight.

  • Measure the distance between the ground and the aim dot on the headlamp and record the measurement.

  • Use that measurement to mark a spot on the blank wall with a piece of tape. Turn on the Impala and the headlights.

  • Use the E8 Torx socket to adjust the adjustment screws located under the hood right above the headlights. Rotate the screws until the brightest part of the headlight beam is just below the spot marked on the wall. Repeat the process for the other headlamp. Close the hood.
