Troubleshooting the headlights on a Dodge Ram will eventually lead to the relay in the fuse panel. The relay is used to protect electrical components from an electrical surge. The relay is made to absorb the electrical power, keeping any surges from overloading the wires leading to the headlight or the headlight itself. Replacing the blown relay will only take a few seconds. You will located it in the fuse panel.

Things You'll Need

  • 30-amp relay
  • Open the hood for access to the engine compartment. Locate the fuse panel behind the battery.

  • Open the fuse panel by pushing in the tabs on the side and lifting the cover up. Locate the diagram on the back of the cover to locate the position of the low-beam relay.

  • Pull the relay out by hand. The relay can be pulled out by tugging it on it to loosen it from the panel.

  • Push in the new relay. Push it in the slot until it stops.

  • Turn on the headlights to test the low beams.
