How to Install Rear Wheel Bearings on the 2003 Buick Rendezvous

Worn or faulty rear bearings will cause noise and vibration in the rear of the vehicle. The rear wheel bearings in the 2003 Buick Rendezvous are not designed to be replaced on their own--the entire wheel hub is replaced with the bearings. Because the bearings do not need to be removed from the hub, no special tools such as a bearing press are needed.

Things You'll Need

  • Lug wrench
  • Jack
  • Socket wrench
  • Torx head bits
  • Torque wrench
  • Loosen the lug nuts. Jack up the vehicle and pull off the wheel and brake drum.

  • Unplug the electrical connector from the hub assembly.

  • Unscrew the four Torx head bolts that retain the hub assembly. Holes in the hub provide access to the screws. Remove the hub.

  • Bolt the replacement hub assembly into place. Torque the Torx head bolts to 63 ft. lbs..

  • Plug the electrical connector into the hub assembly.

  • Slide the brake drum and wheel into place. Hand-tighten the lug nuts, lower the car and finish tightening the lug nuts.
