How to Replace the Battery in a C6 Corvette

The C6 is a model of the popular Chevrolet Corvette. As with all cars, care must be taken when determining the correct battery to use. The 2005 Corvette requires a battery with the positive (+) terminal on the right or passenger side. The C6 Corvette model from 2006 to the current year requires a battery with the positive terminal on the left or driver's side. The current battery information should be used for cross-referencing a replacement.

Things You'll Need

  • Memory saver unit
  • Battery wrench
  • 1/2-inch socket
  • 9-inch ratchet extension
  • Ratchet
  • Attach a memory saver device to the vehicle according to its manufacturer's instructions. Open the hood and locate the battery at the top, right portion of the engine compartment -- just behind the fuse box.

  • Pull the protective rubber boots from the cables. Loosen the negative battery cable with a battery wrench, then disconnect the cable from the battery. Remove the red positive battery cable.

  • Locate the battery hold-down wedge. It is it located at the base of the battery on the front side. Remove the bolt for the hold-down wedge, using a socket, ratchet and ratchet extension.

  • Remove the old battery from the engine bay. Install the new battery and install the hold-down wedge. Install the hold-down bolt and snug it.

  • Connect the positive battery cable first and the the negative battery cable. Pull the rubber safety covers over the terminals and close the hood. Remove the memory saver unit.
