How to Change the Cabin Air Filter in a 2005 Lexus RX 330

The cabin air filter in a 2005 Lexus RX330 carries the responsibility of preventing dirt and debris from flying through your air system. Over time, the filter can become clogged with tiny particles that will cause your vents to seem sluggish, perhaps even carrying a slightly stale odor through your vehicle. The air filter on a Lexus should be changed every 15,000 miles, but there is usually no need to hire a mechanic for this project. If you are comfortable performing your own minor maintenance, this is one of the easiest tasks in vehicle ownership.

Things You'll Need

  • New cabin air filter
  • Old rag
  • Open your glove-box compartment and find the two hooks hanging on each side of the inner walls.

  • Unhook the clips from the inside of the glove box. This will unlock the cabin air-filter compartment, which is behind the glove box.

  • Remove the back panel of the glove box now that the hooks are unlatched.

  • Pull the black top of the air filter so that the accordion-like filter slides out of the cabin container.

  • Use your shop rag to wipe the inside of the container before installing the new air filter.

  • Slide the new filter into the cabin container just as the old filter was placed. Be sure that it is fully inserted before replacing the cover.

  • Place the cover back into the back of the glove box until it rests comfortably without gaps.

  • Re-hook the hangars and check to be sure that the cover is securely in place.
