The windshield washer pump draws washer fluid from the washer fluid reservoir through a tube that runs from the reservoir to the top of the hood on your vehicle. The pump is normally situated underneath the reservoir tank. This pump normally burns out with excessive use, but there is no set maintenance interval or set usable lifetime for the pump. When your washer pump finally dies, you'll need to know how to replace it.
Disconnect the cable running to the negative terminal on the battery by loosening the nut on the cable clamp and sliding the clamp off the terminal.
Open the hood and lift up on the windshield washer fluid reservoir. The reservoir is normally located on the driver's side of the engine bay.
Remove the electrical plug connected to the washer fluid pump. Squeeze the release tab on the connector and pull the connector out of the pump terminal.
Remove the hose connected to the washer pump. You may need to squeeze the tabs on a hose clamp and slide the hose clamp out of the way before pulling the hose off the pump.
Remove the bolts holding the washer pump to the frame of the vehicle and pull the washer pump out of the vehicle.
Install the new windshield washer pump. Installation is the reverse of removal.
