Whether you find dampness in your car's upholstery or the windows in your vehicle are fogging up, you may need to replace the seal in your windows. This doesn't call for a trip to the mechanic, however, because you do it by yourself. You will need to buy a new seal kit, but beyond that no special tools are needed to get the damaged seal out and put the new one in.
Remove the door panel. You will need to take off the door handle and window controls to release the panel. The exact location of these components will vary based on your vehicle.
Lower the window until the bottom is visible through the access door in the door panel. The access door is a large cutout area in the lower part of the door panel.
Release the window from the regulator, which is the mechanism that lifts the window up and down.
Pop off the clips that hold the arms of the regulator onto the window. The clips are located on the back of the window, so you will have to reach inside the door panel and under the glass.
Let the window come off the regulator and rest in the bottom of the door panel.
Pry all of the old seal off the door frame with a screwdriver. You will need to remove both the interior and exterior seals, meaning the seal that is visible from the outside and the one visible from the inside.
Apply the new interior seal first. You will need to press the seal into the holes you removed the old one from. Hold on to the door and squeeze the seal until it pops into place.
Use a wooden dowel to wedge the exterior seal into place. The exterior seal is more difficult to insert because it needs to provide more protection for the window.
Lift the window back onto the window regulator. Hold the window in place by replacing the clips on the back of it.
Put back the door panel and all of the components.
