On a Dodge Caravan, like all modern automobiles, the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve reduces automobile emissions by taking positive pressure from the crankcase (the inside of the engine) and venting it back into the engine intake to make certain that no unburned hydrocarbons are released into the environment. Follow some steps to replace the PCV valve on a Dodge Caravan.
Find the PCV valve on your engine. The PCV valve is located in the valve cover of the engine.
Remove the PCV valve by pulling it straight up for Dodge Caravans model years 1984 through 2000.
On 2001 and newer Dodge Caravans, remove the PCV valve by unscrewing it with the adjustable wrench.
Remove the rubber vacuum hose from the PCV valve and discard the old PCV valve.
Reinstall the PCV valve by installing the rubber vacuum hose onto the new PCV valve in the same manner it was attached to the old PCV valve.
Reinstall the PCV valve into the engine valve cover in the opposite manner as it was removed.
