The TCC (torque converter clutch) solenoid works with the torque converter in an automatic transmission. The solenoid sends electronic signals to your transmission control module to help regulate gear shifting. The TCC solenoid on a Pontiac Sunbird is located behind the driver's side wheel.
Disconnect the negative battery cable and engage the parking brake. Use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts (don't remove) on the driver's side front wheel.
Jack the vehicle up using the front end factory jacking point. Place a jack stand behind each front wheel to support the vehicle.
Finish removing the lug nuts on the driver's side front wheel. Remove the wheel from the vehicle. Remove the wheel well panel directly behind the brake disc.
Disconnect the modules connecting to the TCC solenoid and remove the mounting bolts. Place the new solenoid in its place and connect the modules.
Replace the wheel well panel and the wheel. Slightly tighten the lug nuts with your hand. Lower the vehicle, finish tightening the lug nuts with the wrench and reconnect the negative battery cable.
