The Chevy Silverado is a full-size pickup truck that is the counterpart to the GMC Sierra and has been in continuous production since 1998. These trucks have changed little from year to year. The original equipment manufacturer's horn is an accessory that owners frequently exchange for much louder aftermarket horns. This is a fairly straightforward task requiring only a few tools.
Buy a horn kit. The Silverado has two horns, one low tone and one high tone. Make sure the new horn has the correct tone if you are only replacing one horn.
Locate the original manufacturer's horns. The horns for a Chevy Silverado are in the front fender well on the passenger side and accessible from underneath the truck.
Remove the power connector from the horns, take out the mounting bolt with a socket wrench and remove the original manufacturer's horn. If you are installing factory replacements, you should be able to use the original mounting location. If you are installing custom horns, find a sturdy location with minimal vibration and mount the horns with the accessories included in the kit.
Use the original wiring harnesses if they fit the new horns. Otherwise, you will need to use a wire crimper/stripper to connect the new harness to the old wiring.
Test the new horns to ensure they are working. It should be easy to tell if both horns are sounding, and you can also test the horns one at a time if you need to.
