The engine control module in your Honda Civic with the 1.8-liter engine -- the engine that came standard in base-model Civics from 2006 through 2012 -- is under a cover on the driver's side of the engine compartment, just inboard of the under-hood fuse and relay box.
When you install the ECM, tighten the mounting bolts to 7.2 foot-pounds. After the ECM is replaced, Honda recommends changing the engine oil and filter as well as the automatic transmission fluid, and cleaning the throttle body unless you used a scan tool to save the data from the old ECM to program the new ECM, and all write data checks are successful.
