Installation of an AviStart 5303 With the Schematic

Nobody likes climbing into a freezing car for their morning commute, and trekking through the winter morning to start your vehicle in the driveway’s only a little better. Avital’s AviStart 5303 alarm system allows users to remotely start the vehicle using a radio transmitter. Because of the complexity of the installation, many shops charge buyers hundreds of dollars to install the remote start system. Do-it-yourselfers and mechanics with a schematic to use as a guide can install the 5303 in an afternoon of focused work.

  • Locate places to install the LED display and the disarm switch in the car. The disarm switch should be hidden from view and not located in a position where it may be inadvertently tripped. It needs 1/2 inch of clearance for the switch to operate properly and is often hidden under the dash or in the console. The LED display requires 1/2 inch clearance behind the mounting surface, and is often located in switch blanks or on an unused space on the radio bezel.

  • Cut holes for the LED and kill switch in the vehicle’s interior using a 9/32-inch drill bit. Mount the siren under the hood using mounting hardware provided, screwdriver and adjustable wrench. Connect the siren’s black wire to the ground on the vehicle’s chassis.

  • Wire the alarm system’s primary harness to the vehicle’s primary electrical system, soldering all connections rather than taping them together. As indicated with the schematic included with the alarm, wire the harness’ red wire to the vehicle’s 12v constant power input, the harness’ brown wire to the siren’s red wire. The harness’ red and white wire connects to the vehicle’s automatic trunk release mechanism, wired directly into the switch side of the mechanism. Ground the harness by attaching the black wire to the chassis.

  • Connect the harness’ green wire to the vehicle’s wiring for the dome light if it uses negative door trigger circuits. If the vehicle has a positive switch dome light, connect the harness’ violet wire to the wiring that feeds the dome light.

  • Wire the harness’ white and blue wire to the remote start activation input in the alarm itself. If the vehicle is wired with a positive flash output for its parking lights, wire the harness’ white and blue wire to the wiring between the parking light and the switch. If the vehicle’s flash output is wired on a negative circuit, wire the harness’ blue and white wire to the wiring between the parking light relay and the parking light switch, as indicated by your schematic.

  • Wire the harness’ orange wire to a grounded point on the chassis.

  • Cut the wire that connects the starter motor to the car’s ignition. Connect the relay satellite’s purple wire to the portion of the wire connected to the starter engine. Wire the relay’s green wire to the ignition side of the circuit.

  • Remove the 30-amp fuses connected with the vehicle’s ignition system. Connect the relay satellite’s red wire to ignition system’s 12-volt feed to the ignition switch. Connect the relay’s orange wire to the wire that powers the vehicle’s heat and air conditioning system.

  • Connect the relay satellite’s pink wire to the vehicle’s ignition output wiring. If the vehicle has a second ignition or accessory switch previously attached to the ignition system, leave the relay’s pink and white wire unwired, otherwise connect it to the second ignition accessory output.
