How do I Customize a Pioneer AVIC F900BT?

The AVIC-F900BT is an all-in-one in-dash double-DIN car receiver. The unit provides advanced GPS navigation services using its onboard library of streets, speed limits, landmark data and terrain information. It uses a combination of physical knobs and buttons and a 5.8-inch touch screen for input. The unit also includes a number of customizable features. These features determine the type of information that the device shows you and how it presents it. The unit can be customized to do anything from avoiding U-turns to warning you about the local speed limit.

  • Press the physical "Menu" button, the touchscreen "Settings" icon and the "Navi Settings" icon. Tap the "Sound" icon. Drag the "Master Volume" slider to adjust the total volume of the device. Drag the "Voice" slider to change the level of spoken navigational directions. Use the "On" and "Off" icons to turn key sounds and dynamic volume control on or off. Tap the back icon in the upper-right corner of the screen to return to the previous menu.

  • Tap the "Visual" icon, and then tap the "3D Settings" icon. Use the "On" and "Off" buttons to enable or disable the display of 3D landmarks and roads on the navigational map. You can also tap the "Terrain Detail Level" to change the level of terrain detailing between "Off," "Low," "Medium" and "High." Tap the back icon.

  • Tap the "Map Settings" icon. Tap the "Map Color" text to bring up the color customization window. This window allows you to change the color scheme used during daytime and nighttime. Tap the "Night Mode" button to switch the current color scheme between "Day," "Night" and "Auto." When in "Auto" mode, the color scheme will change automatically when the sun goes down. Use the "On" and "Off" buttons to control whether the unit displays elevation labels on 2D maps, displays street names on the map, uses textured polygons for 3D displays and uses a full-screen view for maps. Tap the back icon.

  • Tap the "Displayed Info" icon. Tap the buttons next to "Top Field," "Middle Field" and "Bottom Field" to bring up a menu that allows you to select what information is displayed in each field. Tap the type of information that you want displayed to reset the field. Tap the back icon.

Tap the wrench icon to customize the smart zoom behavior. On the customization screen you can set the maximum and minimum levels of zoom using the labeled sliders. You can also define whether smart zoom automatically reactivates after the user interacts with the map or searches for a new location. Tap the back icon twice.

  • Tap the "Route" icon. Tap the button next to "Method" to select either "Fast," "Short," "Easy" or "Economical" routing. Fast routing takes the least possible time. Short routing covers the least possible ground. Easy routing uses the fewest turns. Economical routing uses the least fuel. You can also drag the "U-turn Penalty" slider to change the degree of consideration that the routing program gives to U-turns. Moving the slider to the right will result in fewer U-turns. You can use the remaining "On" and "Off" buttons to define whether the navigator will use certain types of roads or not. Tap the back icon.

  • Tap the "Warning" icon. Use the "On" and "Off" buttons to enable or disable speed limit warnings. Drag the slider bar to change the percentage of the speed limit that triggers a warning. When enabled, the GPS will warn you when you exceed that percentage of the speed limit. Tap the back icon.
