How to Wire a Radio in a Chrysler Pacifica

The Chrysler Pacifica's stock stereo deck includes an AM/FM radio and in-dash CD player. Pacifica owners who need to replace a malfunctioning unit, or who wish to upgrade their factory stereo sound system, have many aftermarket units from which to choose. Once you have chosen the new radio, purchase the necessary adapters to install the unit yourself to save time and money over a professional installation.

Things You'll Need

  • 10-mm wrench
  • Torx T-15 socket and drive
  • Trim panel removal tool
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Faceplate adapter
  • Pull the hood release lever located under the driver's side dashboard of the Pacifica. Move to the front of the vehicle and lift the hood. Loosen the bolt holding the grounding cable to the negative battery terminal with a 10-mm wrench. Remove the cable from the battery terminal and set aside. Return to the inside of the vehicle.

  • Remove the screw between the gear selector lever box and the dashboard with a Torx T-15 socket and drive. Remove the trim panel from the gear box with a trim panel removal tool. Remove the panel surrounding the ignition with a trim panel removal tool or flat screwdriver.

  • Pry the panel surrounding the stereo and climate controls away from the Pacifica's dash with the trim panel removal tool. Remove the two screws on either side of the stock stereo with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

  • Slide the stereo from the dashboard until the wiring connections to the back of the stereo can be reached by hand. Disconnect the stereo wiring connectors from the back of the factory stereo. Unplug the antenna cable from the back of the factory stereo and set the stereo aside.

  • Insert the faceplate adapter into the stereo mounting dock. Gather the stereo wiring and antenna cable from the back of the dock and pull it to the front of the Chrysler's dashboard.

  • Plug the two stereo wiring connectors into the wiring harness adapter leads. Plug the wiring harness adapter lead connectors into the appropriate outlets on the back of the aftermarket stereo. Insert the antenna lead into the FM antenna input on the backside of the new stereo. Slide the new stereo into the Chrysler's stereo mounting dock until it snaps into place.

  • Replace the trim panel surrounding the stereo and climate controls and press firmly around its perimeter to snap it back onto the dashboard. Replace the trim panel surrounding the gear box and screw in the screw between the gear box and dashboard with the Torx driver. Return to the Pacifica's engine compartment.

  • Replace the grounding cable clamp onto the negative battery terminal. Tighten the bolt on the grounding cable clamp with a wrench and close the hood.
