How to Remove a Rav4 Speaker

Upgrading your stereo speakers is an excellent way to improve your system's sound quality. Virtually any aftermarket speaker will sound superior to factory speakers. With a Rav4, the job can be done at home and you will be on your way to enjoying high quality music. Learn how to remove speakers in 2001 or newer Rav4's with power windows.

Things You'll Need

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Tape
  • Electric drill
  • Pry open the small cover that hides a screw behind the handle bezel. Do this with a flathead screwdriver with tape covering the metal points so you don't scratch the car's interior. Unscrew the screw with a Phillips screwdriver and save it.

  • Pop off the plastic frame around the handle bezel. Do this with the flathead screwdriver by gently prying the areas on all edges of the handle. Wedge the screwdriver in between the plastic that frames the handle and the door panel. You should hear a soft pop when the plastic becomes dislodged from the door.

  • Remove the two screws on the door assist grip, or door handle, that is positioned vertically and to the left of the handle bezel. Use the flathead screwdriver and pry open the cover at the bottom of the door handle. When the cover pops, remove the handle by hand by working your way from the bottom to the top. When the handle is removed it will expose two screws that you'll remove using the Phillips screwdriver.

  • Pry off the power window switch using the flathead screwdriver. Gently pry off the switch by wedging the screwdriver in either side of the switch and wiggling the screwdriver until the switch pops off. Disconnect the power window switch connecter once the switch cover has been removed.

  • Remove the door panel by gently popping it off the car frame. Start at the bottom of the door and pull gently until you hear the clips on the bottom pop off. There are seven total clips that hold the door on; make sure they are all disconnected before moving on to removing the speaker.

  • Remove the three rivets that hold the speaker in place using an electric drill. Once the rivets are removed the speaker is not held on by anything except for the factory wires. Remove the positive and negative clips from the back of the speaker with your hand and the speaker is removed.
