With music moving more towards digital files instead of compact discs, you more than likely have a great deal of your music library on the hard drive of a portable MP3 player. If, however, you want to play the MP3 music through your car's CD player you must have a specific connection port. Otherwise you are left with using an inferior audio transmitter that plays through the radio of the stereo system (the audio quality is poor at best with this connection method).
Check the car stereo system for an auxiliary port connection (often referred to as "AUX"). This is the desired method of connecting an MP3 player to your car CD player.
Plug the 3.5mm cable into the "AUX" port on the car stereo system, then insert the other end of the cable into the headphone jack on the MP3 player.
Power on the MP3 player and the vehicle, then press "AUX" on the stereo. Push "Play" on the MP3 player and the music begins to play through the car's speaker system.
Insert the FM transmitter into the cigarette lighter port on the car. Plug the cable running out of the transmitter into the power connection port on the MP3 player.
Power on the MP3 player and the car.
Press the "FM" radio button on the car CD player, then flip through the stations until you find a blank radio wave.
Push the "Channel Up" button on the FM transmitter until the digital display showcases the same radio frequency as what the stereo system is tuned to.
Press "Play" and the music from the MP3 player plays through the car's CD player.
