The BMW Z3 was a popular car in its time, as it was a quick and nimble convertible with excellent handling. The stock stereo in the car though was a tape player, and even the optional CD player or CD changer wasn't a great option. Today's aftermarket stereos have lots of additional options that the Z3 wasn't equipped with, and to install one of those aftermarket decks, you first have to remove the stock radio.
Locate the two small flaps on the sides of the deck. Place the blade of the flathead screwdriver on the inside edge of the flap, between the flap itself and the buttons on the stereo, and pop the flaps open.
Unscrew the screws underneath the flaps using the hex-head key. Then grip the stereo either by the flaps, or by the opening for the tape deck and pull it toward you.
Remove the stereo from the dashboard. Remove the antenna and wiring harness using your hands, then take the stereo out of the car.
