If you don't think your vehicle's stock radio antenna is strong enough, you can replace it with a more powerful aftermarket version. Replacing an antenna in a Jeep Liberty is bit tricky because you will have to partially remove the front fender in order to disconnect and install it.
Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable.
Unscrew the antenna mast from the vehicle body; it is usually mounted to the right fender. Remove the cover for the mast fitting and then unscrew the nut with a wrench and remove the bezel fitting.
Detach the right kick panel inside the vehicle--pry up the front end of the door's threshold molding with a trim stick and pull the panel off.
Disconnect the splice for the antenna cable that is behind the kick panel and then tie a long (several feet) length of string or wire to the antenna cable.
Remove the top fender bolts followed by the rear fender bolts located near the top door hinge using a small flare-nut wrench.
Pull out the disconnected corner of the fender until you can reach the inside of the antenna. Pull the antenna out of the hole and out of the vehicle and cut off the wire/string you tied to it.
Tie the wire/string to the end of the replacement antenna cable.
Pull the antenna cable into the inside of the vehicle using the string and connect it to the hole in the fender and the splice inside the kick panel area, then cut off the string.
Connect the bezel fitting to the fender on the outside using its nut, then connect the cover.
Reconnect the bolts for the fender and the kick panel inside the vehicle.
Screw in the replacement antenna mast.
