How to Remove the Radio in a Jeep Liberty

Aftermarket car stereos have not only come down in price, but they also have more features than ever before. You can get a motorized LCD screen with a built-in DVD player, navigation or even integration with your mobile phone. You can install an aftermarket stereo fairly easily, particularly in a Jeep Liberty. First though, you have to remove the old deck. In this case, the project vehicle is a 2006 Jeep Liberty, but the process is similar for other years of Jeep Liberty as well.

Things You'll Need

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Open up the ashtray underneath the a/c controls with your hands and pull it out of the dashboard. Remove the single Phillips-head screw behind the ashtray using the Phillips-head screwdriver.

  • Place the blade of the flat-head screwdriver between the bezel around the stereo and the dashboard and use it to pry off the bezel, being careful not to mar the panels. Remove the trim panel from the dashboard.

  • Remove the stereo from the dashboard using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the stereo out of the dash with your hands and unplug the wiring and other leads out of the back of the stereo.
