The 1993 Chevrolet Silverado had an interesting stereo setup. The factory radio was mounted next to the speedometer gauges, and an optional tape deck was located on the middle of the dashboard. This configuration was good for Chevrolet because it made installing aftermarket stereos more difficult. Fortunately, manufacturers came up with an alternative, and now you can install other models into the dashboard. But first you have to remove the old radio.
Remove the plastic or wood bezel that surrounds the radio next to the speedometer cluster, using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull it away from the dashboard, and set it to the side.
Unscrew the radio from the dashboard. Use your hands to pull it out, then remove the wiring harness and antenna lead from the back of the deck.
Grip the plastic bezel just below the factory tape deck (if so equipped), and pull it toward you to pivot the bottom of the bezel up toward the headliner. Then, pull the bezel away from the dashboard.
Unscrew the factory tape deck from the dashboard. Pull it out, then unplug the wiring from the back. Now you're ready to install an aftermarket unit.
