The Chevy Avalanche was introduced in 2002. It shares most of its interior components with the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks. The second-generation Avalanche was introduced in 2007, with a redesigned exterior and dash setup. Removing the radio from the dash shouldn't take more than 15 to 20 minutes. The following tutorial is applicable to 2007 to 2010 models.
Turn off the engine, and pop the hood. Use the pliers to unhook the negative battery cable for safety.
Pop off the trim panel surrounding the radio. Grasp the panel around the edges, and pull it away. It's only attached by clips. Use a flat-head screwdriver to help you pry it off if you have trouble.
Remove the two screws from the air conditioner vent control panel. Pull the panel out, and disconnect the electrical harnesses from behind it.
Remove the two screws from the climate display panel above the vent control panel. Pull this panel out, and disconnect the electrical harnesses.
Remove the four radio mounting screws. Pull the radio head unit out of the dash. Unplug the antenna cable, and disconnect the electrical harness.
