How to Install an iPod Auxiliary Input in a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser OE Radio

The 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser does not come with an auxiliary input for playing your Apple iPod. There are options that will allow you to play your iPod's music through the PT Cruiser's stereo, but radio static will be apparent. Adding an auxiliary input to the factory radio will remove any and all static, and give your radio a nice factory look. The only way to add an auxiliary input to your PT Cruiser's factory radio is by using an FM modulator.

Things You'll Need

  • FM modulator
  • Screwdriver
  • Wire strippers
  • Twist tie
  • Electrical tape
  • Use a screwdriver to pry off the bezel from the radio to access the screws underneath.

  • Remove the four screws from the radio and pull the unit out of the PT Cruiser. Disconnect the radio input from the rear of the radio.

  • Insert the radio input into the FM modulator and connect the modulator's radio input into the factory unit's radio input.

  • Strip the two auxiliary power wires and twist the corresponding modulator power wires onto the radio's stripped wires. Bind the excess wires with a twist tie or electrical tape.

  • Push the auxiliary input through the bottom of the dashboard. This will allow you to connect your iPod to the modulator. Screw the radio back onto the radio mount and push the bezel back into place.

  • Connect the iPod to the modulator with the auxiliary cable and turn the car on. Tune your car's radio to 89.7mHz and play your iPod. The iPod will play your music through the car's stereo system without the static that FM transmitters produce.
