How to Program a Spare Key for a 2010 Mazda 3

The 2010 Mazda 3 comes in 2-door and 4-door options and is a sporty, entry-level vehicle from the Mazda family of vehicles. If you own a 2010 Mazda 3 vehicle and have a new spare key that did not come with the vehicle when it was first purchased, you will have to program the key to work with the vehicle. By programming the key, you will be able to unlock and lock the doors and the trunk from a distance.

  • Open the driver's side door and leave it open. Lock and unlock the driver's door using the locking mechanism on the door. Insert the key into the ignition.

  • Turn the key to the "Battery on" position (but the vehicle itself has not been started) and return it to the "Off" position. Repeat this process three times. Be sure to leave the key in the ignition.

  • Open and close the driver's side door three times. Leave the door open at the end of the step. If the process is done correctly, the computer inside the vehicle will respond by unlocking and locking the door once on its own. Press any button on the key twice. The doors will once again lock and unlock to indicate that the process is complete.
