How to Start Your VW Engine Remotely

Volkswagen cars of most models and years are equipped with keyless entry and remote start capabilities. This technology allows you to start your engine from as far as a couple hundred feet away using a keychain remote. With the remote, you can access your engine starter for ten minutes at a time and get your car heated up in cold weather. Starting the car takes only seconds, and with the right steps you can control how your car is started.

  • Tap the "Lock" button on your remote and wait until the lights flash on your car.

  • Press and hold the starter button on your remote until the engine starts. Release the button. This will start your engine for ten minutes, after which it will automatically turn off.

  • Press and release the "Lock" button again, then press and hold the starter button while the car is running to turn the automatic starter off.

  • Press the "Lock" button, then hold the starter button again to activate the remote starter an additional time if the engine has been off for at least ten seconds between attempts

  • Enter your car with your ignition key and turn the car on as normal to end the auto start and to actually engage the ignition.
