How to Hook Up Wig Wags

A Wig Wag is a special device that allows the headlights of your vehicle to flash repeatedly in a set pattern. Wig Wags are designed to be used with emergency response or entertainment vehicles to allow the driver to turn on flashing headlights. This device can be installed in your vehicle to give you the option to flash your lights. You must have the wiring diagram for your vehicle and a few tools to complete the installation.

Things You'll Need

  • Power drill
  • Mounting screws
  • Wiring diagram
  • Wire stripper
  • Wire connectors
  • Select a location under your dash to mount the Wig Wag control module. Place the metal support bracket in the location and mark the four mounting holes. Use the power drill to make holes in the surface, then insert the screws through the bracket to mount it. Place the module in the bracket with the included self-taping screws.

  • Disconnect the wires from the battery of your vehicle to prevent electrical shock and damage to the unit while hooking it up. Connect the black "Ground" wire from the back of the module to a piece of bare metal on the chassis of your vehicle to provide a grounding source for the module.

  • Use the wiring diagram for your vehicle to find the high beam wire circuit. Disconnect the left and right beam wires from the junction to isolate them. Use the wire stripper to strip the end of the left high beam wire and connect it to one of the white wires from the Wig Wag with a connector. Repeat this process for the right high beam wire.

  • Find the main high beam wire coming from the dimmer control on your vehicle using the wiring diagram. Connect the orange wire from the Wig Wag to this wire with the stripper and connectors. Connect the green wire from the unit to the activation switch wire for the high beam system.

  • Connect the red wire from the unit to the positive battery terminal to provide power for the device. Reconnect the power cables from your vehicle to the battery and close the hood.
