How to Install a Body Kit in a Mitsubishi Eclipse

The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a popular car with import aftermarket enthusiasts. From performance to stylish accessories, the Eclipse has thousands of aftermarket parts available, including body kits. Body kits include replacements for the front and rear bumper covers and the side skirts along the bottom of the car, just underneath the doors. Body kits look different than the factory body kits and are more stylish and shapely. Some look extremely wild compared to the smooth factory Eclipse body kit.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet
  • Socket set
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Remove the factory front bumper. Get underneath the front bumper and remove the row of 10 mm bolts connectiong the front bumper cover to the plastic splash guard. Sit next to the front tire and remove the row of five Phillips screws along the rear edge, directly in front of the front tire. Open the hood and remove the bolts along the top of the bumper cover using a ratchet and 12 mm socket. Pull the front cover off.

  • Place the front bumper cover of the body kit on the Eclipse. Install the 12 mm bolts along the top to hold it in place. Install the row of five screws along the rear edge of the front bumper cover. Connect the front bumper cover with the splash guard with the 10 mm bolts. Close the hood.

  • Take off the side skirts and replace them with the skirts from the body kit. Each side skirt is attached to the Eclipse by two 12 mm bolts. One bolt is at the front and one is at the rear, about two inches underneath the edge of the side skirt. Remove these with a ratchet and socket and replace them once the body kit skirts are in place.

  • Open the trunk to remove the rear bumper cover. Remove the row of Phillips screws along the front edge of the rear bumper cover, just behind the rear tire. Remove the row of four 12 mm bolts along the top of the bumper cover, where the trunk lid meets the bumper. Take the bumper off. Place the body kit bumper on the rear of the Eclipse and install the row of 12 mm bolts to hold the bumper in place. Insert and tighten the Phillips screws along the front edge of the rear bumper cover.
