Competition Engineering Shock Adjustment Instructions

Competition Engineering manufactures adjustable three-way shocks for both the front and rear of drag racing vehicles. The technology behind these shocks allows drivers to quickly change the shock absorption ratio to meet their needs on the racetrack. The front end of the car rises rapidly upon takeoff, which transfers more weight to the back tires and provides better traction for higher speeds.

  • Grasp the shock and hold it upright with the piston shaft facing up. The shaft is the stationary section of the shock that the moving half enters for shock absorption.

  • Place one hand on the bottom of the shock while holding the top of the shock with the other hand. Compress and extend the shock about 10 times. This action will purge any air in the shock from shipping.

  • Compress the shock again and rotate the setting indicator clockwise until you hear clicks on each setting. This sets the automatic adjustment system on the shock.

  • Compress the shock fully and rotate the notch indicator to one of the three settings. Front shocks on setting "R" have a ratio of 60/40, the "F" setting ratio is 80/20 and the "SF" setting is a 90/10 ratio. Rear shocks have a ratio of 50/50 on the "R" setting, 40/60 on the "F" setting and 30/70 on the "SF" setting.
