How to Replace Jetta Speakers

Volkswagen Jettas are equipped with speakers in the front and rear doors. Replacement of the existing speakers is a job that the average person can do with simple hand tools and a little patience. The payoff is saving the money you'd have to spend at a body shop or car audio installer to get the job done.

Things You'll Need

  • Panel tool
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Torx T15 driver
  • Drill with 3/8-inch bit
  • Sheet metal screws (1/2 inch)

Front door speakers

  • Insert the tip of a panel tool into the seam of the door pull handle and pry outward to remove the outer cover of the handle. Remove the two Phillips screws that are located underneath.

  • Pry up on the edges of the switch panel on the armrest and remove it. Unplug the wiring connectors attached to the back of the panel. Take out three Phillips screws that you'll find underneath the panel location.

  • Remove a single Phillips screw from the upper front edge of the door panel. Take out three Torx T15 screws from the bottom edge of the door panel.

  • Pry around the edges of the door panel to release the clips holding it onto the door. Lift the panel up and off of the door.

  • Drill out the three rivets holding the speaker into the door, using a drill and 3/8-inch bit. Pull the speaker out of the door and unplug the wires connected to the back. Plug those wires into the new speaker. Place the speaker into the door and screw it into the holes left by the rivets with sheet metal screws.

  • Repeat all steps for the other door. Test the speakers and replace the door panels and reassemble.

Rear door speakers
