How to Install a CB in a Dodge 2500

The Dodge Ram series of pickup trucks comprises the company's full-sized pickup offerings. Many Ram owners install citizens band radios to communicate with other drivers. Mounting a CB radio in the cab of a Ram series pickup requires a mounting plate, available in many aftermarket parts retailers. The installation process take about two hours.

Things You'll Need

  • Power screwdriver
  • Dodge Ram CB mount kit -- wide mount
  • CB radio
  • Wire strippers
  • Wire fids
  • Crimpers
  • Black electric tape
  • Mount the CB radio Dodge Ram adapter plate to the center of the seats so it tilts at an angle down to the floor. Screw the mounting plate down to the floor of the Ram cab. Keep the two mounting brackets on the top side of the plate and facing the console of the Ram.

  • Look under the center of the Ram console to find the wire plug running into the radio. Unplug the radio and locate the antenna wire. Set the wire aside.

  • Place the CB radio into the plate's brackets. Most mobile CB radios have receiver screws on the side that slide into the cradles on the brackets. Push these into the brackets and use the screw on locking dials to the screws. Tighten the dials so they are secure but still allow the CB radio to pivot forward or backward in the bracket arms. Mount the microphone into the side cradle on the mounting plate.

  • Run the CB antenna wire to the Ram's antenna wire. Twist them together and place a wire fid on the top of the wires and twist further. Crimp down on the fid to secure the antenna wires into position and place them back under the console. Place the floor mats over the wires to prevent accidental rips.

  • Run the power cord from the CB radio under the console to find the wire plugs running off the Ram's battery. Plug the CB power cord into the plugs. If your Ram is equipped, opt to use the cigarette lighter power plug to power the CB radio.

  • Turn the Ram ignition key to neutral and then turn on the CB to test the installation and connections.
