How to Install a Camaro Headliner

If your Camaro's headliner is torn or sagging, save money by installing the replacement yourself. You can measure and cut the material for a new headliner or buy a pre-fabricated kit already cut to fit your Camaro's model year. Small or medium-sized generic headliner kits will fit most Camaros if you only need the headliner. If you also need new rear panels and sun visors, purchase a large kit so you have extra fabric to work with.

Things You'll Need

  • Headliner kit
  • Screwdriver
  • Scissors
  • Soft-bristled brush
  • Remove the screws and trim that runs around the edges of the car's interior. Take off the trim around the overhead light and any other items that are connected to the roof.

  • Remove the screws and hanger hooks above the rear speaker panels. Use the end of a flathead screwdriver to pry off the seat belt covers.

  • Release the clips that hold the front of the headliner board and allow the board to drop slowly into your hands. Pull the board out of the car and lay it on a table or workbench.

  • Remove and discard the old headliner. Use a soft-bristled brush to scrub any leftover debris off the board.

  • Lay the new headliner over the board. Trim the headliner to fit the board. Cut holes for the overhead light and seat belts.

  • Attach the new headliner to the board according to the instructions in the kit. Some kits include an adhesive, while others come with retaining clips to hold the headliner in place.

  • Slide the board into the interior of the car and raise it up to the ceiling. Push the rear edge of the board back as you snap the front edge into the retaining clips. Replace the seat belt covers, hanger hooks and trim.
