How to Remove the GMC Envoy Center Dash Plate

The GMC Envoy's center dash plate, also called a dash panel or a radio surround panel, is attached by simple clips. However, in order to access the clips and remove the dash plate, you must first remove the entire center console, which can be time consuming. Removing the dash plate gives you access to the Envoy's radio. It also allows you to access the climate control unit.

Things You'll Need

  • Pry or hook tool
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Socket wrench
  • Inspect the Envoy's shift knob to find the Torx screw. It is right beneath the "Release" button. Loosen it with a T-15 Torx screwdriver, then lift the shift knob to remove it.

  • Insert a hook or pry tool into the rear lower corner of the shift boot. The shift boot is the leather or vinyl cover surrounding the gear shift selector. Pry upward with the tool to release the boot. Continue for the other corners, then lift the boot to remove it.

  • Open the Envoy's center console lid. Pry off the two rubber covers in the bottom of the console. You'll now see six Phillips screws. Remove each of them, then lift the plastic compartment out of the center console.

  • Remove the two 7mm bolts in the center console. These are beneath the plastic compartment. Lift out the center console cupholder liners and remove the two 7mm bolts behind them.

  • Lift the entire center console upward slightly. Underneath you'll see a wiring harness. Disconnect it, then continue lifting the center console. Set the console aside to have access to the dash plate.

  • Remove the center stack panel's screws. There are two Phillips screws on either side of the center stack, beneath the radio unit. Pull the center stack panel off. You'll now see two Phillips screws beneath the cigarette lighter adapter. Remove them and remove the cigarette lighter adapter panel.

  • Insert your pry or hook tool in the the lower left corner of the dash plate. Pull outward to unhook the corner of the plate, then work your way around to disconnect the plate. Pull it off and unplug the wiring harness behind it.
