How to Remount a Donnelly Rear View Mirror

A Donnelly rear-view mirror is powered by your car's battery to display compass headings, map lights and a temperature display. If there are problems with the mirror, you must take it off the mount to send it in for repairs. You will then remount the repaired mirror or a replacement mirror to the windshield. Install Donnelly rear-view mirrors using a wedge mount or a camlock mount.

Things You'll Need

  • Hex screwdriver

Wedge Mount Installation

  • Hold the neck of the mirror bracket with one hand and the head of the mirror with the other.

  • Slide the mirror bracket into place over the mirror button on the windshield.

  • Move the mirror from left to right until it fits securely on the mirror button.

  • Insert a hex screwdriver into the hole below the mirror mount under the compass pod.

  • Turn the screwdriver to the right to tighten the locking screw.

Camlock Mount Installation

  • Pull out the retainer spring from the mirror button on the windshield, if the spring is broken.

  • Insert a new spring, if needed, from the replacement installation kit.

  • Hold the mirror base at a 90-degree angle to the mirror button.

  • Set the mirror into place under the mirror button, then slide it up from the bottom to attach it.

  • Turn the mirror so that it sits in a horizontal position.
