How to Lubricate a Jeep Soft Top Zipper

As your Jeep's soft top ages, it typically becomes harder to operate. The zippers on your Jeep Wrangler's soft top can become dirty and stiff, which will make them hard to zip and unzip. Fortunately there are products that have been specially designed to lubricate your Jeep top's zippers. Properly maintaining the zippers can extend the life of your Jeep's soft top by decreasing the amount of pulling and tugging required when the top is taken off or put back on the Jeep.

Things You'll Need

  • Zipper cleaner
  • Water
  • Zipper lubricant
  • Thoroughly clean the Jeep's top. Rinse and scrub away as much dirt and debris as possible.

  • Apply to the zippers a product especially designed to clean and maintain zippers. Most of these products come with a specially designed applicator that allows you to clean between the teeth of the zipper. Follow the product instructions exactly.

  • Apply a zipper lubricant to the zippers. Look for a product designed for use on Jeeps or one with waterproofing properties, which can help reduce leakage into the Jeep as well as help the zippers work more easily.
