How to Clean the Headlamps on a Corolla

Oxidation build-ups on sunny days can cause your headlamps to become cloudy and discolored. Your headlamps are an important safety feature on your Toyota Corolla and should be inspected monthly for signs of cracks or cloudiness. The risk of nighttime accidents increases with diminished visibility caused by poorly maintained headlamps. Fortunately, with a bit of time and a few basic cleaning products, you can easily restore your Corolla headlamps to their original shine.

Things You'll Need

  • Window cleaner
  • Paper towels or drying cloth
  • Rubbing compound
  • Rough-textured cleaning cloth
  • Clean water
  • Polishing compound
  • Park your Corolla on level ground and set the parking brake.

  • Spray the headlight with window cleaner. Wipe the headlight clean with paper towels or a cleaning cloth.

  • Apply rubbing compound to a clean, rough cloth and apply throughly to the headlight surface by rubbing in small circles. Cover the headlight completely with the rubbing compound. Continue buffing the headlight using circular motions for several minutes.

  • Wash the headlight with clean water to remove excess rubbing compound. Reapply rubbing compound and repeat the procedure two to three times.

  • Apply polishing compound to a clean cloth. Coat the headlight throughly with polishing compound using a circular motion. Buff the headlight surface with a clean cloth until all the polishing compound has been removed. Rinse the headlight with clean water. Dry the headlight with a drying cloth or towels.
